Trampolines for Kids

Trampolines are used by millions of kids and adults all over the country because they are fun and a great way to stay in shape.  Gymnasts and physical therapists have used trampolines for years because it is a great way to work on core strength and cardio without the extreme stress on your joints that is usually associated with running or other types of exercises.  The suspension of the trampoline absorbs the impacts so that your joints and bones don’t have to.  With so many toys focused on computer and other passive entertainment its no wonder that there is a problem with childhood obesity.  Getting a trampoline fro your children will be great fun for them without even realizing that it is helping to keep them active and in shape.

For younger children, ages three to around five, a jump start trampoline is a great choice.  Some parents envision large and dangerous trampolines that children injure themselves on when they think about trampolines but a jumpstart trampoline is very safe.  This type is usually a square trampoline that is similar is size and shape to an exercise trampoline for adults.  They are a few feet wide and around a foot off the ground.  These trampolines include two safety features that make them great for younger kids.  First, they have a handle bar that they can hold onto that will help them keep their balance and prevent them from falling off of the trampoline easily.  Second, these types of trampolines are not made with spring suspensions systems that you typically see on larger versions and those for adults.  This is much safer because small fingers and toes can easily be pinched in the springs of those trampolines which can be very painful.

For older kids there are plenty of larger trampolines to keep them occupied.  While these are inevitably a bit more dangerous, there are still features that keep them relatively safe.  Pads can be bought to place on the ground around the trampoline in the event of a fall or you can purchase a mesh cage that goes around the outside to keep someone from falling off the surface of the trampoline.  Either way, trampolines are a great way for kids to get exercise and have fun.
